Mia Cat Yo

In addition to having a slight obsession of drawing trees, I also enjoy drawing cats. My own cat, Mia, full name Mia Cat Yo, is shown in this sketch I did a few weeks ago. We, the cat and I, are on bad terms right now, because she at times decides to destroy things which aren't to be destroyed. This should be an interesting weekend as the cat and I have the apartment to ourselves, because my wife flew to Phoenix, AZ to celebrate her 30th birthday with her friends. Let's hope that I come out of this weekend with a minimal amount of scars.

Obsession With Trees

I really have no idea why I have a fascination with drawing trees. Maybe it stems from a certain need to experience the appeal of climbing them, similar to the encounters I had as a child. Maybe it stems from the limited time I actually spend outdoors and it is my attempt to reconnect with nature. Maybe it is my way of paying respect to the plant that allows me to practice my favorite form of meditation, drawing. Then again, maybe it is a perverted way of telling conservationists to bite me, which I hope it isn't.
Anyway, I know of another, more accomplished artist, than I who has a similar fascination. His name is Craig Thompson. He is an illustrator/cartoonist that is based out of Portland, Oregon. He is known for his books Blankets and Goodbye Chunky Rice. If you are a fan of comics, graphic novels, or stories at all, you need to read and own these books. Thompson does things with a brush and ink that I could only dream of creating.

Zombie Christ!?

Here is a sketch I did during Easter of 2006. I even wrote something about it around the same time. So, here ya go!
Sunday, April 16, 2006:
Am I going to hell? That is if hell exists. I was driving home from work today, yes on Easter Sunday, and I began thinking about reasons for this holiday, more specifically the option that is celebrated most. No, not throwing an embryo that is surrounded by a nutrient material that serves as a protective covering for many animals into boiling water and then defacing them with various dyes and adonrments, silly! No, I'm not speaking of rotting away our enamel and forming a pitted area in our teeth by ingesting water-soluble crystalline carbohydrates that have a characteristically sweet taste, goofball! I'm talking about the resurrection of that Jesus fella!
After considering the meanings for this holiday, for some reason or another, I began thinking about zombies. Next, I deduced that if Jesus hadn't "ascended into heaven and was seated at the right hand of the Father" he would have become one of the undead!
I repeated this discovery to my own father, who is Catholic and whom I have been in arguments with over less ridiculous religious repartee, and to my surprise he chuckled! We then had a full-scale discussion, as opposed to a partially-scaled discussion, over whether zombies should be allowed to become citizens of the United States and whether or not they should have the right-to-work and reap benefits from federal and state governments.
Now my questions to the thoughtful public.
1. In your opinion, am I going to hell?
2. What are the rights of the undead?
3. Moreover, would these rights be different had Jesus been a zombie as well?

Not so daily grind...

Well, I entitiled this blog as "The Daily Grind" and it has been anything but. My intentions have been there to post daily, but prior commitments have not allowed me to keep to my regularly scheduled, well...schedule. However, after working a couple of excellent dance concerts the past couple weeks and a frantic game of hide-and-seek, which I understand is kind of vague, I am hoping to post more often. The bewilderedkid comic strips will be, hopefully, updated weekly. I am in the process of finishing some more strips as well as starting a few different projects. It also is my intention to post some sketches on this site. I have a new domain name, bewilderedkid.com, which of course directs you to this blog until I can design a proper site. Oh what else is going on? Not much, but I posted again and hopefully it will become a daily event!

Customer Service

As promised, I'd figure out how to put my comic strips up on this thing.
Here ya go! Just click on the picture to actually read the thing!

Cripes! Almost a month!

It's almost been a month since I last updated this blog. Well, I have some decent news, as of yesterday I am officially able to drive again! I had a nocturnal break-through epileptic seizure about a month ago and was told by my neurologist to not drive until my newly prescribed medication was up to its full dosage. As of yesterday I was up to my full dosage and now do not have to rely on others for menial tasks such as picking up groceries. Also, I feel a little bit better about paying my car payment now, since the car wasn't really being used.
Anyhow, I am going to try and figure out how to post some of my comic strips on this thing soon enough. When that happens, that is if anyone reads this, I hope I don't get sued.
